Artist Spotlight: Iggy Azalea
Amethyst Amelia Kelly, better known by her stage name Iggy Azalea, is an Australian recording artist and model from Mullumbimby, New South Wales.
She relocated to the United States at the age of 16, first staying in Miami, Florida, and then other parts of the South, including Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia.
Between 2011 and 2012, Azalea released two mixtapes, an EP executive produced by American rapper T.I. and also went into professional modeling.
Also in 2012, Azalea became the first female and non-American rapper to be featured on XXL magazine's annual Top 10 Freshman cover issue.
After label conflicts, her debut studio album, The New Classic, was finally released on April 21, 2014.
The album debuted inside the top five of several charts worldwide.
"Fancy" became a global top ten hit and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, with Azalea becoming only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the Hot 100.
Azalea joined The Beatles as the only acts to rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously with their first two Hot 100 hits.
